Content gathering is typically time-consuming, and certain phases of development cannot proceed without it.
Neekdesign starts with the organization of your site - your site architecture. This is the foundation of your website and outline for your content. From here, you can begin to work with your pre-existing content and also generate new content.
If you can, deliver your content (edited and in one batch) before we begin building your site. Sending final website copy at the beginning of your project will help minimize revisions during the site review stage. If you can't deliver final copy upfront, be sure to allow time for it's creation and editing during your project's design phase.

Content-management systems and software
Designate a single writer / editor
This person will likely be needed for further updates and maintenance as your site evolves. Designate a different person to gather your content and get it ready to send to the developer. Separating out content roles can help you manage this process much better than if one person is doing all the writing, editing, and gathering. When you send us content, please include:
- Directions telling us where each piece of content should go
- A proposed page title for every page
- A proposed browser bar title for every page
- Main headings for each page
- Images to be included in each page
- Rich keywords for each page
You may wonder if you need content-management software. The short answer is "probably not." Learn more about content-management systems and software...

Content-management systems and software
The most important question to ask when deciding on content management is, "Will this make my life easier?" Neekdesign can help you answer this question; however, in most cases, content-management software is more expensive, difficult and time-consuming than simply having a sound plan for content management.
The best content management system is thoughtful planning and organization, with a single person in charge of your site's content using a simple, powerful tool such as BBEdit or Homesite.
Our sites are built in a simple, modular fashion so your content changes, edits and refreshes are simple to undertake. However, some complex sites with many contributors can benefit from simple content-management software.
Neekdesign has installed and configured content-management software for a number of customers with such needs. We often recommend open-source packages such as Six Apart's Movable Type platform for our customers who have complex sites and need a lot of power; we also recommend Macromedia's Contribute product for simpler sites dependent on multiple content contributors.
